Today’s post is similar to this post last year, about Ramadan Iftar.

Ramadan is the ninth month of Islamic calendar, today is the first day of Ramadan.
May Allah accept our fasting, forgive our sins, and guide us all to the Straight Path. May Allah bless us all during Ramadan, and throughout the year, with His forgiveness, mercy, and peace, and bring us all closer to Him and to each other.

Sha’ban is the eighth month of the Islamic calender, it is the month before Ramadan.
Nisf Sha’ban or Mid-Sha’ban is the 15th day of the Muslim month of Sha’ban. Laylat Nisf Sha’ban is the night preceding the 15th day of Sha’ban. The most important event at the fifteenth of Sha’ban was the changing of the qiblah which was ordered by God from Masjid Al-Aqsa (Al-Aqsa Mosque) in Jerusalem, to Masjid Al-Haram (The Sacred Mosque) in Mecca.
In Syria it is a tradition to celebrate Nisf Sha’ban, each city has its own way of celebration.
In Hama, streets are lightened with extra lights and decorated with Syria’s flag. Sweet shops and mothers prepare special sweets, these kind of sweets are available only during Nisf Sha’ban, they can’t be found in other days of the year. Also, parents visit their married daughters and take with them these sweets as a gift.
Four kinds of sweets are prepared:
Bashmina
Mahia
Ma’moul Abiad
Makbouseh

This year, Nisf Sha’ban (Mid-Sha’ban) was on 28/7/2010.

The preparations for Eid Al-Adha are similar to Eid Al-Fitr, and the only difference between Eid Al-Adha and Eid Al-Fitr is that during the celebration of Eid al-Adha, Muslims commemorate and remember Abraham’s trials, by themselves slaughtering an animal such as a sheep, cow, goat or camel.
In both Eids, sweets are prepared, we buy new clothes, and visit our relatives, and there is something called “E’idiyeh” it is some money given by old members of the family to the younger ones as a gift in Eid (Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha), my father and my uncles give me “E’idiyeh” each Eid (Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha).
This is our table in Eid Al-Adha.
